Past is Present: Black Artists Respond to the Complicated Histories of Slavery is the catalogue for the exhibition of the same name. Mounted in the galleries of the Herron School of Art + Design in Indianapolis, the exhibition featured the work of dozens of nationally prominent and local black artists in communication with historical documents from the era of slavery. Curated by historian and writer Jonathan Michael Square, and featuring essays by Square and Dr. Kelli Morgan, the catalogue serves as the record of a profuound and moving exhibition.
