Totto's Market

Eertmoed Studio
2025

The exterior signage was designed by the studio and hand-painted by Ches Perry at Rightway Signs in Chicago to honor and support local craftsmanship.
Named after the owner’s dad, “Totto,” who dedicated his life to back-bending customer service in the grocery industry, we wanted to honor Totto's legacy by creating wooden tokens that can be redeemed for a cup of coffee or candy.
The interior was designed by Tim Balon, who masterfully interpreted the brand values and aesthetic.
The hand-made logo, as seen on the aprons, was inspired by Matisse cutouts, portraying abstracted products offered in the market. Wordmark was hand-stamped on cups for a reductive brand experience.
Hand-drawn illustrations by Kyle Eertmoed and custom tape reinforce quaintness, reverence, and authenticity.

Totto’s Market is a charming grocer in the heart of Chicago’s Printer’s Row neighborhood. Named after the owner’s dad, “Totto,” who dedicated his life to back-bending customer service in the grocery industry, the market carries forward his legacy. Totto’s son, Scott, merged those old-school values with a modern-day approach that listens to the neighborhood’s needs. Here, you’ll find local and imported specialty items other markets don’t carry, alongside everyday kitchen staples. Every detail was thoughtfully considered, even down to wrapping the door handles in leather bike tape, a nod to Totto’s days of cycling. (Formerly Knoed)
