Tools are for everybody, but they're not always designed for everybody. This system of tools is created to be accessible and usable.
Tools begins with simple forms that distinguish each instrument for its unique use. Removing excess materiality and focusing on familiarity, these tools invite even the most unhandy to engage with creating, building, and fixing at home. A simple guide was made to support learning use-cases for each hand tool and best practices for selecting fasteners, measuring, and safety. Packaging and display were designed to create cohesive story-telling that is utilitarian as well as intriguing. Through icons and symbols the consumer can begin to associate specific tools with needs in their home and begin to learn how simply tools can and should be used by anyone.
Each tool was crafted by hand out of solid wood and recycled steel tool bits. Pamphlets were printed on recycled newsprint and packaging was made using reclaimed materials.
