Originally created as a headline typeface for Arena Homme+, RetroFuture merges bold geometric structures, circular forms, and narrow slits to create a distinct rhythm in text. Influenced by Futurism, Bauhaus, and Constructivism, the font challenges traditional legibility, instead emphasizing the perception of shapes and movement.
While individual letterforms may appear abstract, they come together in words to form a highly readable and expressive typographic system. RetroFuture demonstrates how typography can be both experimental and functional. It reflects a shift where type is no longer just a means of communication but an integral part of visual storytelling.
AG RetroFuture is Neville Brody’s contribution to the A-Project, where he was invited alongside 13 designers to create a typeface reflecting the evolution of Hangul typography. The collection draws inspiration from Ahn Sang-soo's 1985 deconstructed font, AG AhnSangSoo.
Custom type posters were created for the A-exhibition held in South Korea in October 2024, and Plymouth Design Forum in November 2024.
