In an effort to jumpstart my passion for graphic design and to re-discover my visual voice, I began producing one poster a day inspired by the emotions, experiences, and events of my life.
This project was prescribed by Rick Valicenti/Thirst and each day he provides daily guidance, critique, and commentary. I spend no more than two hours of time crafting these works that are sometimes expressive, sometimes humorous, always contemplative, somewhat experimental, usually playful and creatively emotional. Upon completion I email the poster design to Rick for the necessary encouragement and immediate responses.
This process has not been about creating hip and trendy posters. In fact, my process has not been about designing beautiful works that are easily alluring or acces-sible for anyone. The challenge of discovery is both personal and public.
My process uses the act of making a design to tap into the unknown and uncer-tain-ty of my life. The making process allows me to “reclaim and come clos-er to myself bit by bit — everyday.” Mak-ing these posters “has been a process of self-discovering experience.”
I am grateful for the opportunity and delighted to share my experiences with you.
