We’d much rather live now than at any other time in history. This is the first time that large parts of the world population can be in charge of their own destiny. The Harvard psychologist Steven Pinker shows that crime (= death by the hand of another man) actually decreased in every single century over the last 2000 years, including the twentieth century that featured both world wars and the Holocaust.
