This poster was designed when we were invited as participating designers to 2015 Asia/Next-Poster Experimental Design Exhibition.
The two pieces of series posters are experimental posters that were designed using quotes from Christopher Tilley, a British anthropologist. The quote is as following: “…… landscapes, unlike their representations, are constituted in space-time. They are always changing, in the process of being and becoming, never exactly the same twice over. Places alter according to natural rhythms such as the progression of seasons, time of day, qualities of light and shade, and so on.” This is from a book titled <Interpreting Landscapes>, written by Christopher Tilley.
The first poster expresses in typography Tilley’s words “landscapes, unlike their representations, are constituted in space-time. They are always changing, in the process of being and becoming, never exactly the same twice over.” In addition, the words and graphic have overlapping image of Korean landscapes. In the second poster, the Tilley quote was symbolized into a graphic, not typography. Landscapes were expressed as a graphic symbol on a map. “The progression of seasons” were expressed as the color gradation representing the four seasons, and “time of day” was displayed in twenty-four lines representing light. “Qualities of light and shade, and so on” was
shown as six graphic lines with the appearance of light coming down from the sky. In the text “Individual & Society,” “Individual” was expressed as a small circle, and “society” was visualized as five small circles huddled together inside of a large circle. “Interaction” was displayed using two small circles and an arrow to visualize the coming and going.
This poster was exhibited in Yu Cun Gallery in China, Sing Kong Mitsukoshi Kaohsiung Design Gallery in Taiwan, and Inag Gallery in Korea in 2015, as a part of 2015 Asia/Next-Poster Experimental Design Exhibition.
