While combating the COVID-19 pandemic, the public has asked architects why our buildings make us sicker. The Architecture of Health, authored by Michael P. Murphy, Founding Principal and Executive Director of MASS Design Group, along with Design Director Jeffrey Mansfield, explores this question and unearths how the architecture around us has been influenced by developments in healthcare over time.
We worked with MASS and the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum to give this content form by designing a book architecture that allows the reader to engage with the images as footnotes to the text. The images are then re-contextualized in photo wells which provide new relationships to the content when grouped in alternate ways.
