My interests is where culture and graphic design interconnect, and how to maintain the local references and visuals that make an area unique without resorting to stereotypical tropes or genericness. After studying Japanese for a couple of years and having some issues maintaining some of the vocabulary and symbols, I decided to add a visual element to my lessons in this series of 18x24 posters. Glitching the images and arranging the halves of the Japanese and English translations together represents my thinking process while studying a new language, while the correct textbook translations appear below.
