VERSION FESTIVAL 15 : 100 WATTS – Identity and Advertisements
Version Festival is an annual, artist-run, arts and music festival held in alternative art spaces in various Chicago neighborhoods. For the past 14 years Version Festival has introduced innovative projects that tackle local social and urban issues. The festival highlights projects and people that engage public interest and promote the cultural use of public space.
In December, 2014 the FCC granted the Public Media Institute, Version Festival’s nonprofit arts organization, a license to build a low-power FM station to serve our community and up to 1.7 million Chicago listeners. The station, WLPN Lumpen Radio is broadcasting live on the internet and will be on the Chicago airwaves at 105.5 FM by Fall 2016.
Version Festival transformed the Co-Prosperity Sphere, an alternative space in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood, into a studio for recording and broadcasting live events and programming.
The festival took place from April 23 to May 3, 2015, bringing local radio producers, audio alchemists, activists, DJs, podcasters, record labels, bands, storytellers, spoken word artists, time travelers, poets, librarians, art critics, educators, performance artists, and sound editors.
Version Festival’s theme for 2015 was 100 WATTS, referencing the strength of the low power FM radio station. VERSION FESTIVAL 15 : 100 WATTS was an on-air laboratory and campaign to create a contemporary radio station.
The marketing collateral served both print and digital mediums and onsite activations throughout the festival.
